Taize Celebration by Candlelight
On Good Friday each year, Cruinniú host a Taize reflection in the church of S.s. Mary and Peter, Arklow. This event has increased in popularity over the last few years, as it creates a peaceful ambience for reflection to the backdrop of Taize chant. The night includes a mixture of prayer, silent reflection, veneration of the cross and is accompanied by still and serene melodies in the distinctive Taize vein.
Taize is an ecumenical monastic order situated in Burgundy, France. Annually, over 100,000 young people make the pilgrimage to the community, founded by Brother Roger. A particular style of singing has evolved from Taize and this is sung by Cruinniú at the service.
The simple, repetitive songs and an ample silence are means for the gathered assembly, "with a common voice… to proclaim and respond to the Word of God."
This event provides the opportunity for meditation in a solely candlelit setting.
Cruinniú welcome all to this event each Good Friday at 9pm in Ss. Mary and Peter's Church, Main Street, Arklow.
