Carols by Candlelight
Cruinniú hosts 'Carols by Candlelight' every Christmas. We have performed old favourites like 'Christmas Song (Chestnuts Roasting)' to sacred pieces such as 'Nativity Carol' to more contemporary pieces such as 'Three Jazzy Bells'. Each year, we choose a deserving charity, to where 100% of moneys raised on the night go directly. Our chosen charity for 2018 was 'Arklow Community Action Resource Centre', which raises money for homeless and struggling families in Arklow and surrounding areas. Previously, we have raised funds for 'Arklow Cancer Support Group', 'Wheels for Darragh' and 'Cogs and Kiwi' foundation.
History of 'Carols by Candlelight'
We undertook our first Cruinniú concert on December 6th, 2012 in aid of Arklow Cancer Support Group. The night was a great success for the charity and has since become a regular feature every Christmas. Cruinniú performed a medley of Christmas carols, both familiar and less well known, in a variety of styles.
We have also featured performances from Arklow Shipping Silver Band, teen vocal ensemble 'Aisling', St. Michael's G.N.S. school choir, ‘Blown Identity’’ brass ensemble and male choir 'Take Note'.
Cruinniú have also collaborated with Paul Sharkey and Henry Hurley, who have both successfully taken on the role of M.C. for the concert.
Accompanying us for our concert was John Bonner, a friend of Cruinniú, having accompanied us in many events and competitions over the years.
